Venerable Theodosius, Abbot of the Caves

Ven. Theodosius of the Caves k is one of the founders of monasticism in Kyivan Rus' and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. He was born in the first half of the XI century in Kyiv region. St. Theodosius built the terrestrial monastery - the monks' cells from the narrow cave passages were moved to the surface. Under his abbotship, the Assumption Catholicon (Cathedral) was founded, a book business was started, and the number of monks increased fivefold. The saint went to the Lord in 1074. The memory of St. Theodosius is celebrated on May 16, July 16 and August 27.
