Church of the icon "Joy of All Who Sorrow" in Lavra

The Church of the icon "Joy of All Who Sorrow" in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra is located in the building of a former hospital on the territory of the monastery's Guest House.

A two-story building with a pilgrimage hospital was built in 1849-1851. In 1864–1866, a two-story wing was completed from the east, on the upper floor of which a hospital church was built in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow”. In December 1866 it was consecrated, in 1867 a wooden iconostasis was installed.

The hospital, which consisted of male and female departments, annually served up to 500 patients, had a separate kitchen and ancillary facilities. It was supported mainly by charitable contributions. In 1912-1918, the building housed an almshouse, then again a hospital. In 1920, the church was damaged by artillery shelling, and the following year it was closed with the hospital. In the post-war years, the building was used as a residential building, later - as a production building.

In 2006-2007, the building was overhauled. On October 25, 2009, the restored church was consecrated by the Metropolitan of Kyiv Volodymyr (Sabodan). The church is crowned with two domes with crosses. The apse outside is decorated with mosaic icons of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" and the holy doctors - great martyr Panteleimon the Healer, venerables Agapit and Damian the Healer of the Kyiv Caves.

Feast day: 6 November.

Address: 15 Lavrska street.
