The “Crystal Wailing Wall” installation was created for the 80th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy – its opening took place on October 6, 2021.
According to the idea of the author, artist Marina Abramovich, the art object is a symbolic continuation of the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem, the main center of Jewish religious life. The installation was created from Ukrainian coal and crystals, combining darkness and light. Darkness is a symbol of tragic events and memories, while light symbolizes the life that is now in this place.
The crystalline wailing wall is not just a sculpture, but an object with which viewers can interact: touch, comprehend the past, think about the future.
