The building on the 112A Saksahanskoho Street is an example of capitalist residential development, designed in the traditions of Kyiv architecture of the late 19th century. It is an architectural monument.
Story
The house consists of the main house (112A) and an outbuilding (112B). The main building was built in 1898-1900. In January 1918, the estate was damaged during artillery shelling by the Red Guards. Repair work on the estate was carried out in the 1930s and in 1956. To date, the house is in good condition, but the facade needs cosmetic repairs. The destruction of decorative elements is noticeable.
Architecture
The main building is a four-story building with a basement, brick, painted, rectangular in plan. The building is decorated in the style of historicism with neo-Renaissance elements. The composition of the facades is symmetrical.
The first floor is rusticated, plaster details are widely used in the decoration of other floors. In the magnificent decor, female and lion masks were used in the keystones of the windows, ornament: "grotesque" - in the projections, floral - in the window sills. The house is crowned with a developed cornice with modulons, the central risalit is a semicircular pediment with a coat of arms in an oval. Above the main entrance there is a relief desudeporte depicting cupids among bunches of grapes reading a book and playing the pipes. The driveway in the south wing has a ceiling with plafonds decorated with oval and circular rosettes. Above the passage there is a cartouche in the paws of griffins, in which the date of construction is placed - 1900.
Notable residents
In 1901-04, Alexander Radtsig lived in apartment No. 22 - a scientist in the field of heat power engineering, dean of the mechanical department of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, founder and head of the steam engine laboratory, founder of steam turbine building.
In the 1910s, the estate housed the singing school and the opera class of M. Vronsky; private women's educational institution of the 1st category A. Domontovich-Schipilo.
